1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing sold for $4.62 million
The most impressive car that was sold at the Gooding & Company’s Scottsdale, Arizona auction was this gorgeous 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing that managed to fetch an impressive $4.2 million, which cost a total of $4.62 million after taking into account the auction fees. In other words, we are dealing with the most expensive Gullwing in the world.
The car was expected to be sold for somewhere around $2,500,000 and $3,000,000, but in the end managed to grab a lot more than that. It shouldn’t come as a surprise taking into consideration that Mercedes-Benz manufactured only 29 units of the aluminum-bodied 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing so we’re dealing with a rare automobile.
The auction sold more than $39 million worth of vehicles, and except for this Gullwing there was another special car sold, a Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider from 1959 which managed to grab $3,905,000 (auction fees included).
