With only 22 units built between 1957 and 1958, the Scaglietti designed ‘pontoon-fender’ 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is one of rarest cars ‘alive’ and that means that whoever owns one owns a small fortune. Because the model you see pictured above, the fourth one ever built and the second customer car was sold this weekend for an incredible amount of money, €9,020,000 (about $12.2 million) at the RM Auctions’ third annual Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event, setting a new world record for the most expensive car ever sold at auction. The 9 million paid for the ‘57 Ferrari is €1,980,000 ($2.6 million) more than the previous record, which was set around this time last year, at the same event, when a 1961 Ferrari California Spyder was sold for €7,040,000 (around $9.5 million).

Great looking car - I can’t imagine how nervous I’d be driving a car worth $12.2 million!
