Nissan GT-R and Maserati MC-12 might enter the 2010 Le Mans race

If things go smoothly, it would seem that a battle which many would want to happen, between the Nissan GT-R and Maserati MC-12 and all of the other GT cars at Le Mans might happen. But first, a brief history lesson as to why this didn’t happen yet. There are two racing bodies governing motorsport, FIA, which deals with Formula 1 and many other competitions, and ACO, which deals with Le Mans in particular.

Up until now, cars like the Nissan GT-R or Maserati MC-12 weren’t accepted in the prestigious race because of the rules that ACO followed. But the racing body is preparing to adopt the FIA GT1 regulations, which will allow things like the Maserati’s carbon fiber chassis in the race.

This means that Gigawave Motorsport, the team which has been running a customized version of the Nissan GT-R in FIA GT, and Vitaphone, which represents Maserati in the same competition will enter the prestigious 24 hours of Le Mans race and take on models from Audi, Ferrari or other competitors.
