  • TDI engine celebrates its 20th anniversary: a happy diesel birthday

It’s hard to believe but Audi has announced that its TDI engine is celebrating 20 years of existence this fall, as the first unit rolled off the assembly line in an old Audi 100.

Since those simpler times, when the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine had distributor injector pumps, technology evolved to pump-injectors and ultimately to the current day common rail injection system. Since then, the Volkswagen group, of which Audi is a part of, has built over 5 million TDI engines which are paving the way for efficient cars which don’t pollute as much as before but also offer adequate amounts of power when you need it.

RPMGo wishes the TDI a happy bithday!
